We’re keeping the peaberry party going into August with one of our favorite releases of the year: Tanzania Peaberry Iyenga. It’s bright, balanced, and just really fun to drink.
This coffee comes to us from the village of Iyenga, way up in the southern highlands of Tanzania. It’s a region known for fertile soils, cool nights, and incredible smallholder farms. Most farmers here are working on just a few acres of land, but they put serious care into every step, from hand-sorting ripe cherries to pulping them within 8 hours of harvest.

The farmers are part of a co-op called Iyenga AMCOS, which has been growing since 2003 and now includes over 500 contributing farmers. Many live within walking distance of the village washing station, but during harvest, they organize trucks and motorbikes to make sure all cherries get to the pulper quickly. (If you visit during harvest, you’ll hear the eco-efficient pulper humming from 4 to 8pm, right as the sun sets.)
We source this coffee through our partners at Crop to Cup, who have built a deep relationship with the Iyenga community, supporting education, entrepreneurship, and long-term sustainability in the region.
At the Roastery, we landed on a Medium roast to bring out this coffee’s natural sweetness and complexity. Because it’s a peaberry (meaning there’s just one round seed inside the cherry instead of two flat ones), the flavor is super concentrated, and in this case, it really shows.

Tasting notes? Think tropical fruit, macadamia, and a touch of agave. The acidity is bright and juicy, and the body is medium, enough structure to hold up to a splash of milk, but we think it really shines black.
