A Small Batch Of Natural La Armonia Hermosa

We have truly gushed about our La Armonia Hermosa (LAH) specialty coffee since we first started a relationship with growers in 2010. It’s a delicious single origin coffee with a beautiful intention behind it. Julio Cuy, the producer, comes from a line of generational farmers in Santa Maria de Jesus, Guatemala. He had a dream to build up his community of farmers who traditionally struggled making a livable wage growing coffee in the region, which lacked infrastructure and easily accessible running water.

This dream has become a reality over the years with the creation of a beneficio (a wet mill to process the coffee) and many other great infrastructure additions with the help of our relationship with them. The farmer group now receives consistently higher prices for their beans due to increased quality, marketability, and personal relationships with their roasters, like us! You can read a little more about our 14 plus year relationship in our LAH Feature blog from 2021 or their website.

So, What’s the Difference?

Natural La Armonia Hermosa comes from the same region as our regular LAH, but the biggest difference is Julio’s son, Melvin Cuy. Under his father’s supervision, he has taken the reigns of the project and has been experimenting with different processing techniques at the beneficio.

La Armonia Hermosa is typically processed using a fully washed and sun-dried method, however, this small batch was processed by the natural method. While it sounds like a subtle change in the coffee process, it gives the end product a sweeter profile. For all the coffee lovers who aren’t familiar with methods, we have a blog that highlights the different ones in more detail.

This small batch of Natural La Armonia Hermosa has amazing tasting notes of strawberry poptart, green apple, and brown sugar.

In short, the natural method is when the fruit is left on the coffee bean, instead of washed off. It is still sun-dried, much like a raisin. Therefore, the natural sugars from the fruit seep into the bean allowing the coffee to end up tasting sweeter and more fruit-forward.

This natural processed coffee will only be available until the green beans we received from this small lot’s coffee harvest are gone. Try it while you can!
